Ground Water Assessment  (Single watershed-based approach)

This study aims at presenting the current state of groundwater resources, effects of rapid urbanisation and associated strain on the groundwater table in the city of Guwahati. The problem is not unique to this city. In fact, one of the primary environmental issues associated with microclimatic changes is depletion of groundwater resources, causing acute shortage of drinking water in developed urban centres. To avoid such circumstances, use of GW must be regulated and monitored and should be adopted as an important part of modern urban governance. A detailed study of the overall flow and reserve of water within the watershed must be carried out to understand the dynamics of water resources with the watershed.
